I’m currently trying to narrow the scope of a research project to an issue in healthcare operations where industrial engineering methods can be used to help resolve it. Does anyone have any “hot” topics right now or know of any healthcare specific research that’s taken place over the past 8-10 years?
I think a relevant issue in healthcare today is the flexibility and agility of the supply chain. These past few months have shown how vulnerable the healthcare system is, seeing that there were extreme shortages of PPE and ventilators. This may or may not be related to the supply chains set up to obtain these supplies, but I think it would be interesting to look into how this supply shortage could have been avoided, or at least more quickly replenished.
