I am interested in working as an intern in the manufacturing sector. What are some day-to-day responsibilities for a manufacturing engineer intern? Do they typically do a lot of design on 3-D modeling software, or do they spend a lot of time closer to the actual process?
I worked for GE Healthcare as a mfg. engineer and it is definitely (at least for me) a lot more work closer to the actual process. I had to be on the production line at least once a day to make sure everything was running smoothly and there were no problems, however there are A LOT of day to day problems that need immediate fixing. Other than that the rest of your time is usually used to develop improvements to the production line, so 3-D modeling could be used in that situation, but that is more the work for the design engineers.
